Kurdistani Erbil snatches Iraqi football

Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region "Iraq", —
Erbil beat Al-Jawiya (Airforce) 1-0 under a
strength-sapping afternoon sun to take a second
consecutive premier league title on Sunday.
To prevent power shortage in al-Shaab stadium, the
football final organisers set the match one hour in
advance and face the searing summer season in
Baghdad.
Despite boasting the skills of Ahmed Salah and
orchestration of goal keeper Sarhang Muhsin,www.ekurd.net
Erbil never found their
stylish best. But they were well worth the win
thanks to a delightful first additional time chip
from striker Ahmed Salah.
With temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius (104
Fahrenheit) in the sun, al-Jawiya mounted plenty of
late pressure but were unable to reproduce the drama
of 1990s victories.
Erbil won the Iraqi title last year and his cabinet
included the best of his national team
