Kurdistan press syndicate urges probe into
Kurdish journalist's murder

The Kurdistan press syndicate on Tuesday called on
the Iraqi government to conduct prompt
investigations into the killing of a Kurdish
journalist by unknown gunmen in Kirkuk city.
“We urge the Iraqi government, particularly
officials from Kirkuk city, to speed up
investigations into the killing of Soran Mama Hama,
find the culprits and bring them to justice,” read a
statement released by the syndicate and received by
VOI.
On Monday, unknown
gunmen killed Hama
after he had left his house in downtown Kirkuk’s
area of Shourja.
The death brings the number of journalists killed in
Iraq since April 2003 to 239,www.ekurd.net
including 20 killed by
U.S. forces and two by Iraqi fire, according to
reports released by the Journalistic Freedoms
Observatory (JFO).
The JFO is a Baghdad-based non-governmental
organization comprised of Iraqi journalists to
monitor violations against media workers in the
country.
