LONDON, -- A faild asylum-seeker who used
false documents to get work has been jailed for 12
months and recommended for deportation.
Hussain Ali Zadeh had been refused asylum and had
completely exhausted the appeals process since
arriving in the UK in August 2004.
Yet he was employed at Moy Park,www.ekurd.net
Grantham, and the Staff
Line agency after using an asylum registration card
granting him entitlement to work.
Steven Gosnell, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown
Court Zadeh's genuine registration card was stamped
that he was not entitled to employment.
Zadeh, an Iranian Kurd, was arrested in March and
admitted he was not allowed to work in the UK and
that he had used false documents.
He pleaded guilty to charges of obtaining a
pecuniary advantage by deception, using a false
instrument and making false representations.
Angela Rafferty, defending, said the 28-year-old, of
College Street, Grantham, only wanted to obtain
money so he could feed himself.
"He was simply trying to eat. At times he has been
living in parks and eating scraps off the street,"
Miss Rafferty told the court.
She urged the judge not to recommend Zadeh for
deportation, claiming he faced the possibility of
execution if returned to Iran.
