UK: Kurdish Asylum seeker dad in detention centre  9.4.2008

April 9, 2008

LONDON, UK, -- Young mum fears her baby girl will grow up without knowing her asylum seeker dad.

Stephanie Hare says he didn’t even get the chance to say goodbye to five-month-old Tianah.

He was detained after making one of his regular visits to Stockton Police Station.

At one point immigration officials put 19-year-old Karwan Aziz on a plane back to Kurdistan, before he was suddenly taken off without explanation.

“They are messing with his mind,” said Stephanie,
www.ekurd.net 20, of Wicklow Street, Middlesbrough, who has been with Karwan for two years.

“He is so upset they have put him on suicide watch at a detention centre in London.

“He fears he won’t see his daughter again. I grew up without a dad and know it’s horrible. I don’t want that for Tianah.”

Stephanie said Karwan didn’t come home after going to the police station on March 12 and was sent straight to a detention centre.

“He had no idea he was going to be taken.

“I got a call saying he was going to a centre in Scotland, but immigration have told me nothing about what’s happening.

“After that he went to a centre near Gatwick Airport and got as far as being put on a plane before they took him off.

“I have lost a stone with worry and I don’t know what to do to help.”

Stephanie says she plans to contact Middlesbrough MP Sir Stuart Bell to seek his help in the case.
