Kurdish, Iraqi and International Researches in
Hawler University’s Medical Conference
Hawler (Erbil) Medical University continues its
preparations to organize the 1st scientific
conference for the period April 26th-28th in the
cultural center of Salah El-Din University in Erbil
Province.
The conference, which will witness Kurdish, Iraqi
and International participation, is divided into six
axes: Medicine fields, Clinic, Medicine basics,
Dentistry, Pharmacology and Nursing. 103 researches,
which have been chosen from 145 applicants that were
received by the organizing committee, are going to
participate in the conference from researchers of
Kurdish, Iraqi and International universities.
Also, it is expected that 12 specialist researchers
will participate in the conference works.
Kurdistan Region Parliament Expected to Revise
Journalism Bill, Speaker Says
On Saturday, the Speaker of Kurdistan Region
Parliament, Adnan Mufti, made a speech at the
International Book Show held in Erbil as the Show
stepped into third day and its today’s activities
were dedicated to discussing the journalism bill
which was passed by the parliament last December.
Adnan Mufti briefed how the bill, which drew sharp
criticism by the Kurdish journalists and
intellectuals, was passed.
Mufti referred to the positive aspects of the bill
for the journalists, saying articles 8 and 10 of the
bill specify the rights of the journalists. He
described it as a historic achievement the Kurdish
journalism ever witnessed.
“I believe the penalties to the journalists in case
of breaching the laws contain unfairness,” Mufti
said, while the criticisms of the Kurdish
journalists enriched the lawmakers’ information in
this regard, hoping the bill to be revised on 22
April which coincides with the Kurdish Journalists’
Day.
KRG Commemorates Faylee Kurdish Victims
The KRG Ministry for Martyrs’ Affairs and Anfals
held a ceremony on the 28th anniversary of detaining
the Faylee Kurdish victims to unknown destination by
the Iraqi Baath regime on Sunday.
The ceremony, which was cooperated by the Shafaq
Cultural Foundation for the Kurdish Faylees, was
attended by a number of Kurdish MPs, intellectuals,
and politicians. Many speeches were made during the
ceremony which shed light on the Faylee Kurds' roles
in the successive Kurdish revolutions, particularly
their roles to confront the Iraqi ousted Baath
regime which oppressed and violated their legitimate
rights.
The Head of Shafaq Foundation, Ali Hussein,
reiterated the Iraqi government’ duty to compensate
the families of Faylee Kurdish victims and demanded
the Kurdish politicians to better serve them as they
had been suffered a lot merely because they are
Kurds.
Later a documentary was displayed, depicting the
ordeals and sufferings of the Faylee Kurds and their
roles in the Kurdish revolutions.
Three Women Committed Self-burning in Kurdish
Towns
A 15-year-old Kurdish girl, Beri Azad, committed
self-burning in Chwarqurna town on Friday. As a
result, she died, as police said.
Beri Azad, who was a pupil at the secondary school,
had a psychological disorder and committed
self-burning in her home. Later she was rushed to
the Sulaimani Emergency Hospital. Due to the severe
burnings inflicted on her body, she died Saturday.
This is the second case of self-burning within the
last two days in that town. Away from Chwarqurna,
another woman, Nasar Omer, committed self-burning in
Khalifan town and she died in a local hospital
there. Nasar, who had two kids, died as 95 percent
of her body burnt, a close relative of Nasar told
PUKmedia. As he said, she had a psychological
disorder.
Dust Storms Hit Sulaimaniyah, 30 People
Hospitalized
Sulaimaniyah has recently experienced a series of
dust storms. As a result, more than 30 people were
hospitalized.
Due to the dust storms recently hit Sulaimaniyah, a
high number of people, especially those suffer from
asthma and other allergies, were hospitalized, a
source from Sulaimaniyah Emergency Hospital said.
On the other hand, from Friday an effective low
latitude dust pressure, which swept up from the
south of Iraq, hit Kurdistan region, causing a dusty
atmosphere and reduced visibility in the region, the
Director of Sulaimani Meteorology Office, Dara
Hassan, said.
The dust storm is expected to be continued for the
next two days and it may be followed by a shower of
rain, as Hassan said.
Sulaimaniyah…Youth Carnival in Azadi Park
Under the motto (Youth Carnival towards the
Parliament), the second youth Carnival started in
the gardens of Azadi (Freedom) Park. It was attended
by George Mansur, the KRG Minister of Civil Society
and Jutyar Nuri the Deputy Governor of Sulaimaniyah.
Concerning the side which organized this event, Mr.
Shad Muhammad, the head of Youth Enabling
Organization said: ”We have held this Carnival in
coordination with the Civil Development Organization
(CDO) in addition to other democratic and feministic
organizations in order to express the will of
Kurdistan Youth to grant the approval of the KRG and
Kurdistan Parliament to decrease the age of the
Parliamentary candidate 25 years instead of 30 to
give the opportunity for the youth to take their
part in the democratic political process.” More than
30 of Civil Society, Human Rights, Woman and Child
Organizations participated in the Carnival. It’s
worth mentioning that the 1st youth Carnival was
held in Erbil last year.
