Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq, --
Visiting British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on
Friday affirmed anew his country's robust support
for the Iraqi Government for maintaining Iraq's
stability and hinted at London's interest in
launching businesses in the country.
Miliband, speaking at a news conference with the
President of the semi-autonomous region of
Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, said he discussed with
the local leaders prospected role that could be
played by the Kurdish community for progress in the
country's political and economic processes.
Asked on Britain's possible role in dissuading
neighboring Turkey from launching new incursions
into Kurdistan, the mainly-Kurdish region, Miliband
said violence could not resolve problem.
Touching on the controversial issue of Kirkuk's
future status, Miliband indicated that the enacted
law of resources distribution should constitute a
basis for a local settlement on the destiny of the
oil-rich city. |

Iraqis have been
involved in heated debates on future distribution of
the country's wealth resources, namely the oil. Much
of the country's crude is located in the north and
south of the country.
General stability prevailing in Iraq's Kurdistan
paves way for luring in British investments, said
Miliband, who raised the issue of attracting British
businesses to the country at talks with senior
officials in Baghdad Thursday.
For his part, Barzani re-affirmed support for the
central government against the militias and voiced
readiness to be cooperative with other Iraqi forces
within national conciliation.
Miliband arrived in Iraq on Thursday and held talks
with top leaders in Baghdad before proceeding to the
north of the country. He was in Saudi Arabia before
coming here.
