Phoencia wins new airport duty free concession at
Erbil International Airport in Kurdistan

Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq, -- Noor
Kurdistan for Aviation, the operator of the existing
airport in Erbil and of the new international
airport under construction,www.ekurd.net
has signed a management
agreement with Phoenicia Erbil (Off Shore) SAL, to
manage and operate all of the Arrivals and
Departures retail sales areas at both locations.
Erbil is the Iraqi Kurdistan's capital.
The ten-year contract covers both duty paid and duty
free sales.
Phoenicia Erbil (Off Shore) SAL is the newly
established subsidiary of long-established duty free
retailer, Phoenicia International Holding, best
known for its acclaimed duty free cigars operation
at Beirut International Airport.
Phoenicia Managing Director Walid Saleh told The
Moodie Report: “The existing Erbil International
airport is currently serving around 500,000
passengers per year coming from various European &
Middle Eastern destinations, including Vienna,
Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Amman,
Beirut, Dubai and Tehran.”
The shops cover 750sq m of retail space across both
Arrivals and Departures. Duty free sales will be
offered to diplomatic delegations as well.
The major categories to be offered include liquor,
tobacco, cigars, fragrances, cosmetics,
confectionery and electronics.
The launch of the operation is expected by the
beginning of September, Saleh said. |
