German Embassy Office in Erbil

Falah Mustafa Bakir, the Kurdistan Regional
Government’s (KRG) Head of Foreign Relations,www.ekurd.net
Saturday said that he
welcomed the announcement by the German Embassy in
Baghdad that it has opened a preliminary office in
Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan Region.
Minister Bakir said, “This is a very important step
in furthering relations between the Kurdistan Region
and Germany”. He added, “Germany is the largest
economy in Europe and the German Embassy Office here
will facilitate important commercial and cultural
contacts between our people and the people of
Germany. |

“We are pleased and proud that Germany has joined
the growing list of foreign nations that have opened
official contacts with the Kurdistan Region and we
welcome them with open arms to Erbil where they will
find many friends. The German government has a
number of important assistance and training
programmes here,www.ekurd.net
and we are hopeful that
the presence of an Embassy Office will lead to the
development of new programmes, as well as new
commercial opportunities for German companies.
We
look forward to working closely with the new Head of
Representation, Mr Cornelius Huppertz, whom we
already know well from his excellent work in the
German Embassy in Baghdad.”
The German Embassy in Baghdad stated that
initiatives that have already begun, such as the
AGEF vocational training programme and its Public
Private Partnership with Daimler, will be
strengthened and supported by the Embassy's enhanced
presence in Erbil.

Germany appointed a consul in Erbil, foreign affairs
office in the Kurdistan regional government said on
Sunday. A German delegation is currently on an
official visit to Erbil, capital city of the Iraqi
Kurdistan region.
"On Sunday, a delegation from the German Ministry of
Foreign Affairs arrived in Erbil, to officially
announce appointing a German Consul to the Kurdistan
region," the office said in a release received by
VOI.
