Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region 'Iraq, -- The
president of the autonomous Kurdistan region in
'northern Iraq', Massoud Barzani, has demanded the
prosecution of those who supplied chemical weapons
to the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Saddam ordered the use of chemical weapons against
ethnic Kurds in the city of Halabja in 1988 where
5,000 civilian inhabitants are thought to have died
in an aerial bombardment of mustard gas and nerve
agents.
"The tragedy of the inhabitants of the city of
Halabja is the key to resolving the Kurdish question
in Iraq," Barzani said on Wednesday, during a
meeting with a delegation of Kurdish citizens who
were present at the time of the bombing.
Barzani reiterated his commitment to bring to
justice all the companies that had supplied the
former Iraqi regime with the chemical substances and
the technology necessary to create his arsenal of
chemical weapons. |

having supplied the former regime with these
chemicals," he said.

them to a tribunal,www.ekurd.net

for their role in the creation of the former
