Mosul: Bomb attack targets Kurdish KDP party office

Mosul,
Northwest Iraq, -- At least nine people were
injured on Sunday in a suicide bombing that targeted
a Kurdish KDP party office in the northern Iraqi
city of Mosul, a police source said.
"A suicide bomber blew himself up targeting the
headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic party
adjacent to the Criminal Investigation Bureau in the
city of Mosul on Sunday morning, wounding nine
people, including two policemen," the source, who
requested anonymity, told VOI.
For his part, Khasro Curran, official in charge of
branch XIV of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in
Mosul, said the attacker detonated explosives
strapped to his body at the entry to a headquarter
of his party in Mosul,www.ekurd.net
wounding a guard. the
Kurdistan Democratic party leads by Massoud Barzani,
the President of Iraq's Kurdistan region.
The Kurdish official said "the attack occurred in
the Prophet Younis area."
Mosul, capital city of Ninewa province in Iraq, near
the border with Kurdistan region, lies 405 km north
of Baghdad. A Kurdish Yazidis are primarily ethnic
Kurds located near Mosul. Some 350,000 Yazidis live
in villages around Mosul near Kurdistan autonomous
region border.
The attack came while Kurds were observing the
twentieth anniversary of Halabja massacre, when the
Kurdish city,www.ekurd.net
which is located 83 km
south-east of Sulaimaniyah came under bombing with
chemical weapons by the former Iraqi regime. The
shelling killed more than five thousand Kurds and
injured more than ten thousand others.
