Ozcelik's meeting with Kurdistan region
officials...Another step towards the right way

Eventually, far away from the media, the
representatives of Turkey’s government and Kurdistan
Regional government held a meeting.
This meeting which was held last Friday between a
delegation from KRG and Foreign Acting Iraq
Coordinator Murat Ozcelik who recently met with Dr.
Barham Salih and other Officials in Baghdad is a
strong signal that Turkey taking practical steps
towards overcoming the disputes and tensions with
its neighbour countries. At the same time it is a
vital signal that President Talabani’s visit to
Turkey was a significant factor to create a
different climate between Iraq and Turkey in one
hand and between Kurdistan Region and Turkey in the
other hand. This meeting is one of the achievements
which resulted from Talabani’s visit.
Although Turkey’s current government faces an
internal pressure and threat, courageously initiated
to hold that meeting and determined not to miss the
chance. There is no doubt that the meeting is in the
interest of Turkey and its strategy to decrease the
level of its disputes with the neighbor countries to
zero point. |

The strategy is
designed by Ahmed Oglu, the current theorist of
Turkey’s Foreign Policy. Meanwhile it is also in the
interest of Iraq and Kurdistan Region, especially
the course of disputes in the area is heading to put
Iraq, Turkey and Kurdistan Region in the same side
of the balance in near future. It is the future that
Talabani, Barzani, Gul and Erdogan all see this as
an inevitability.
Friday’s meeting, which we can say that it is
another part of Talabani’s visit to Ankara, is a
right step from Turkey towards establishing an
official and strong relationship with Kurdistan
Region, which has an economical value for Turkey.
Yet, its internal reactions on Turkey’s government
is not clear but the thing that is certain is that
Erdogan’s government is courageous and determinate
in its foreign policy and sees the factors of
economic development and the role of Turkey as a
significant regional power more really. It
understands that Turkey cannot remain marginal in
current events and developments. Also it realizes
that it must be an independent player in the

and not to be the player
for others. It’s another side of Turkey’s new
strategy doctrine for restoring the statue of Turkey
on the regional and international levels. It is also
a new opportunity to Kurdistan Region which must be
invested.
