Iraq's Kurdistan president: AIPU conference is a turning point to Kurds  15.3.2008

Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan Region 'Iraq',--  President of Iraq’s Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani, said on Saturday the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference (AIPU) held in Erbil, the Iraqi Kurdistan's capital earlier this week was a turning point to the better in the history of Kurdish people.

The Kurdish president, in a message addressed to the participating states, thanked them for contributing in the conference success,
www.ekurd.net noting that the final recommendations affirmed Iraq's major role in narrowing the gulf among the diverse points of views of the attendees and shaping basis for future cooperation to resolve issues among neighboring countries.

The 13th conference wrapped up its 50th session with a declaration of support for His highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's call to hold an economic summit and praise to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states successful experience.

More than 19 delegates from various Arab countries, that participated in the conference, hailed the Kuwaiti leader initiative.

The conference witnessed phenomenonal development in the Kuwaiti-Iraqi bilateral relations after 18 years of serious strains in these ties since Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1991.

The Kuwaiti delegation was represented by National Assembly (NA) Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi. He was the first ranking Kuwaiti to visit Iraq in as many years.

Al-Kharafi was accompanied by MPs Dr. Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, Dr. Saad AL-Shuraie, and Khuthair Al-Enizi, in addition to the NA Secretary General Allam Al-Kanderi as well as Assistant Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Caucus, Tawfiq Al-Wuhaib.
