Iraqi president party PUK office in Missan
set on fire

Missan, southern Iraq, -- An Armed group on
Sunday attacked Iraqi president Jalal Talabani's
party office in Amara, southern Iraq, setting it
ablaze, a Missan security source said.
"The office of the Patriotic union of Kurdistan (PUK)
located in Awasha district, central Amara, was set
ablaze by an armed group", a security source, who
requested anonymity, told Voices of Iraq.
The source added "the office guards, threatened with
death, were forced to leave the PUK building before
the gunmen set it on fire".
The PUK, led by the Iraqi president Jalal Talabani,
is one of the two major Kurdish parties
participating in Iraq's governing coalition.
Earlier, the office of of Iraqi PM's Dawa party,www.ekurd.net
came under a mortar
attack, while the office Badr organisation, the
once-military wing of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi
Council (SIIC) was attacked and set on fire by
gunmen.
Missan along with Baghdad and southern cities has
seen mounting violnce following the government'
announcement of a major crackdown on gunmen in
Basra, the southern city and Iraq's main hub for oil
exports
Amara, the capital city of Missan Province, lies 390
km south Baghdad.
