BAGHDAD,-- The Iraqi government on Sunday
denied reports that President Jalal Talabani was
received "improperly" in Turkey.
"In his last visit to Turkey, President Talabani
sent a clear message to Turks to respect Iraq's
sovereignty and not to launch any military
offensives threatening Iraqi territories," Ali al-Dabbagh,
the spokesman for the Iraqi government, told VOI.
The spokesman referred to Iraq's call to "establish
strategic ties with Turkey".
He added other messages showed "Turkey as a major
trade partner to Iraq," and Iraq's will to "expand
ties with Turkey in the trade, economic and security
fields."
Dabbagh also pointed out that Iraq considered
"Turkey's security concerns and would not allow any
threats to Turkey from Iraqi territories, and that
Iraq would "seek through the troika committee ending
all threats posed against Turkey."
President Talabani, a Kurd, wrapped up a two-day
visit to neighboring Turkey on Saturday. It came one
week after Turkish troops withdrew from Kurdistan
region in 'northern Iraq',www.ekurd.net
where they waged an
8-day ground attack targeting fighters of the
Turkish Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), outlawed in
Turkey, in the Iraqi Kurdistan region's territories.
Talabani's delegation comprised Finance Minister
Baqer Jabr al-Zubaydi, Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahrestani,
Water Resources Minister Abdul-Latif Jamal Rashid,
Industry & Minerals Minister Fawzi Hariri and
Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Labid Abawi,
along with Adnan al-Dulaimi, the leader of the Sunni
Iraqi Accordance Front (IAF) bloc, Nasseer al-Aani,
the head of the presidential cabinet, Jalal Mashta,
the president's cultural advisor, General Wafiq al-Samarraie,
the president's military advisor, and the government
