Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan Region 'Iraq',--
Despite the increase of radical Islamists in other
regions of Iraq, rather than Kurdistan, they will
not be able to prevent moderate Iraqis there from
using cell phones to send "I love you," in text
messages to their love-mates on Valentine's Day.
There is always a time and place for everything,
even for Valentine's Day in a war-zone. Sounds of
hearts ticking are higher than the sound of bullets
and mortars.
Contrary to other Iraqi cities, secular and security
stable Erbil – capital city of Kurdistan region, is
preparing to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Residents of Erbil city are buying flowers, colored
music cards, in addition to presents that they plan
to give to their love-mates on the occasion of
Valentine's Day. It's a good season there now for
markets of flowers, presents, and fashions.
Owner of a small female fashions-house in Erbil
city, Haiman (26 years), was very busy talking to
her customers. "Many women came to my fashions-house
today to buy red-colored clothes,www.ekurd.net
" Haiman said, and she
asserted "Some men also came to buy clothes as
presents for their wives and love-mates."
Unmarried school teacher, Aven (33 years), has her
custom-design plans for Valentine's Day. "I will
dress in red," Aven told VOI, and she proceeded "I
will buy presents for my parents only."
Mother of four, and school teacher, Tara (34 years),
has an expensive plan for Valentine's Day. "I will
give presents to my husband, two sons,www.ekurd.net
two daughters, and
female friends," Tara said, confirming "Valentine's
Day is an opportunity for me to send a message of
love to everyone I know."
An 11 year old girl, Tenog, will have a party. "My
school-mates and I decided to celebrate Valentine's
Day together in school," adding "I will give flowers
to my teachers."
Kurd poet, Farhad Berbal (45 years), will celebrate
Valentine's Day in a way saturated with revelation.
"I will give a lecture to a group of young people on
the eve of Valentine's Day about love poetry,"
explaining "I will read some love poems to them."
Civil servant at Salah al-Din University in Erbil
city, Sazan (22 years), said "I have no specific
plans for Valentine's Day," but added optimistically
"but I will dress red, and I feel that I will
receive a red flower on that night."
Valentine's Day reminds other people of their
ex-love. Dalia, 18 years old and an Engineering
School student, said "On Valentine's Day, I will
remember my love that I lost."
