Shiite cleric: Confronting Turkish
incursion into Kurdistan is national duty

Baghdad, Iraq, -- Confronting the Turkish
incursion into Iraq's Kurdistan region is a national
and legitimate duty that should not be neglected
under any pretext, a Shiite cleric said on Sunday.
"We categorically reject the Turkish incursion into
northern Iraq and consider it an act of aggression
and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty,www.ekurd.net
and we call on all
political forces, decision makers and the public to
stand firmly this invasion," Shiite cleric Qasim al-Taaie
said in a statement released by his office.
"The advance of the Turkish troops inside the Iraqi
territories under the pretext of pursuing Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK) fighters and their use of
excessive military force may lead to the destruction
of much of the country's infrastructure and the
killing of many innocent Iraqis," the statement
said.
The statement further described the incursion as an
"illegitimate" act that cannot be rationally
explained.
On Thursday, Turkish forces shelled regions inside
the Iraqi Kurdistan-Turkish-Iranian border triangle
and engaged in battles with thewww.ekurd.net

Workers Party (PKK) fighters in the border area of
Bazia, which came under air attacks by Turkish
warplanes.
Iraqi Kurdistan politician says, Turkey is using
Turkey's Kurdish separatist PKK rebel group as an
excuse to invade Kurdistan region 'Iraq' to prevent
the establishment of Kurdistan state in the Kurdish
autonomous region in 'northern Iraq', Turkey fears
this could fan separatism among its own large
Kurdish population in southeast Turkey.
Over 39,000 Turkish soldiers and Kurdish PKK
guerrillas have been killed since 1984 when the PKK
took up arms for self-rule in the country's mainly
Kurdish southeast of Turkey. A large Turkey's
Kurdish community openly sympathise with the Kurdish
PKK rebels.
The PKK demanded Turkey's recognition of the Kurds'
identity in its constitution and of their language
as a native language along with Turkish in the
country's Kurdish areas, the party also demanded
an end to ethnic discrimination in Turkish laws and
constitution against Kurds, ranting them full
political freedoms.
The PKK is considered a terrorist organization by
the U.S. and the EU.
