BAGHDAD, -- The talk about changing sovereign
ministerial portfolios in the Iraqi government was
premature but the Kurdistan Coalition would never
give up the foreign affairs ministry, said the KC
chief in the Iraqi parliament on Saturday.
"The current foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, who
is from the KC, has achieved a great success in
running the ministry and activating Iraq's foreign
role within its Arab and international
circumference," Fouad Maasoum told reporters.
The KC, the second largest bloc in the Iraqi
parliament with 55 out of a total 275 seats, is
carrying five portfolios including the foreign
affairs, water resources and industry.
Zebari, who belongs to Iraqi Kurdistan region's
President Massoud Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic
Party (KDP), was nominated to the foreign affairs
ministry since the provisional government council
until the present time. |

"The shrinkage in the number of ministries as
proposed by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki was
a very good one. The KC supports the proposal," said
Maasoum.
Maliki, according to a release by his office on
Thursday, underlined the importance of "accelerating
the formation of a new government on sound basis so
that it may be able to meet the ambitions of the
Iraqi people."
"Maliki, in a message he sent to the presidential
board and the leaders of the political blocs,www.ekurd.net
has set the principles
for the formation of a new government. Most
important of these principles is avoiding the quota
system, selecting experienced figures as ministers
and limiting the number of ministries to 22," read
the release.
