In August 1973 he was
arrested with a group of leaders from his Party
because of his rejection of the Arab belt in al-Hassaka,www.ekurd.net
and he stayed in prison
for eight years until 1981, in solitary confinement
and subjected to torture.
After he came out of
prison, although he had left the Party he would
still advise the Party. After the martyr and General
Secretary Kamal Ahmed passed away, Mr. Mohammed
Nazir Mustafa returned to membership and took on the
leadership of the Party. He was elected at the 8th
Conference to be a member of the Central Committee.
He later became the General Secretary of the Central
Committee. During the 10th conference he was voted
into this role again despite his absence from the
conference through illness.
Mr. Mohammed Nazir Mustafa was the first Kurd to
qualify as a lawyer from university,www.ekurd.net
and the first solicitor
in the al-Hassaka area. He continued his work with
integrity, honesty and sincerity becoming a
respected consultant for other solicitors in the al-Hassaka
area. At the end of 2006 he was diagnosed with
cancer, and was supported by President Massoud
Barzani to go to France for treatment in Paris.
Mr. Mohammed Nazir Mustafa died in the morning of 22
December 2008, and in that moment we lost a great
and popular leader in the fight for our Kurdish
rights, and a well-respected man.
