BAGHDAD,
—
Iraq's central government says that it does not
recognize oil contracts signed by Kurdistan regional
government (KRG) with foreign oil companies.
Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain
Shahristani said to reporters in Cairo on Friday
that "those contracts have not been reviewed by the
ministry of oil and have not been recognized by the
federal government."
The comments come as an initial
agreement on

between the central Iraqi oil ministry and the
largely autonomous Kurdish authorities allows
exports from Kurdistan
to Turkey.
Shahristani also said the revenues from oil produced
anywhere in Iraq belonged to central government for
redistribution around the country.

"The decision is that any oil that is produced in
any part of the country has to be handed over to the
federal government and the ministry of oil will
export it. The revenues will go to the central
budget for distribution inside the country."
On his arrival in Cairo Shahristani made the point
that USD 80 a barrel is a "reasonable" price for oil
and that his country would support any OPEC
(Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries)
decision to cut output.
He is in the Egyptian capital to attend a
consultative OPEC meeting to debate slumping crude
prices.
"We have to make sure that oil being produced is
used for consumption and not for storing.
"Iraq would support a decision by OPEC to cut output
either here or in Algeria," he added,www.ekurd.net
referring to a regular OPEC ministerial meeting to
be held in that country in mid-December.
