1st U.S. company to open branch in Iraqi

York International Corporation has opened a branch
in Kurdistan’s Erbil, thus becoming the first U.S.
company to operate in the city.

Hadi said that the branch will provide facilities
for companies and the private sector, which
contribute to the development of the region.
York is the largest independent supplier of heating,
ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration
(HVAC&R) products in the United States and a leading
competitor globally.
$15B investments in
Kurdistan in 2 years
An amount of 15 billion U.S. dollars have been
invested in projects in Iraq’s Kurdistan region
throughout two years, a senior local official said.
“A total of $15 billion have been invested in
projects in the region since the enactment of the
Investment Law in June 2006 and until September
2008,” the general director of the investment
department in Sulaimaniyah, Yasin Feqe Saed, told
VOI.
Saed explained that the number of investment
projects implemented throughout this period was 127,www.ekurd.net
mostly by companies from
Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand,
Lebanon, Britain, the United States, and Jordan.
“The United Arab Emirates companies had the lion’s
share with $6 billion worth of projects,” the
official noted.
