UK: Two housemates in court over Banaz

LONDON, UK, -- Two housemates arrested after
the body of a young Iraqi girl was found crammed in
a suitcase in their back garden have appeared at the
Old Bailey.
Banaz Mahmod, 20, an Iraqi Kurd, was raped and
murdered in an apparent "honour" killing on January
24, 2006, which was was ordered after she fell in
love with an Iranian Kurd Rahmat Suleimani.
Her naked corpse was stuffed in a suitcase and then
driven to Birmingham and buried in a makeshift grave
where her body lay undetected for three months.

Abbas is accused of conspiracy to murder and
perverting the course of justice, while Babaker
faces a single charge of perverting the course of
justice.
In court last Friday, Abbas, formerly of Alexandra
Road, Handsworth, Birmingham,was remanded in
custody.
Babaker, formerly of the same address, but now of
Laird House, Redcar Street, Camberwell, was released
on conditional bail.
They will both appear in court on March 10.
Last year, Banaz's father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, of
Morden Road, Wimbledon, and uncle Ari, 51, of Sandy
Lane,Mitcham were jailed for life for plotting the
murder along with Mohamad Hama, 31,www.ekurd.net
of Uffington Road, West
Norwood, who pleaded guilty to murder.
Ari Mahmod was also convicted of conspiracy to
pervert the course of justice. Pshtewan Hama, 27, of
Cambridge Close, Hounslow, west London, admitted
conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by
trying to cover up the death and was jailed for
eight months.
