South Korean Ambassador : Funds allocated to
Sulaimaniyah Province
On Tuesday, the Deputy of KRG Premier, Omer Fatah,
received the South Korean ambassador in Iraq, Ha Jan
Hu, on the occasion of finishing his assignment in
Baghdad. The deputy praised the ambassador’s works
and service to the Kurdistan region. The ambassador
said that his country intends to assess its
embassy’s work in order to better serve Kurdistan
region.“In the next agenda, funds will be allocated
to Sulaimaniyah province in order that it may serve
the entire Kurdistan region, the ambassador added.”
410 women violated against in Sulaimaniyah
According to the statistics of Women Violations
Follow-up Directorate, 417 women were violated
against in Sulaimaniyah and its surroundings in
2007. The data was displayed during a press
conference held by the directorate. The violations
were caused by social, economical and other
problems, 97 cases are self-burnings in which 27
died while 8 of them connected to suicide, and 2
cases are self-hangings. Most of the violation
attempts occurred in districts and sub districts as
the data shows.
Baghdad: President Talabani chairs Meeting of
Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces
Secretary General of PUK, Mr. Jalal Talabani chaired
a meeting of PUK Peshmerga Organizational Bureau in
Baghdad on Tuesday. Talabani highlighted the role
and significance of Peshmerga forces, and the role
of PUK Peshmerga Organizational Bureau in succeeding
the PUK third conference during the meeting. He also
indicated the importance of ongoing development of
Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces abilities. He emphasized
that 2008 is a crucial year for the Kurdish people
pointing out more importance will be given to
reconstruction of Kurdish villages as well as
developing Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces abilities in a
way matching the current developments.
KRG Minister of Labor and Social Affairs receives
Delegation from US State of Justice
The KRG Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Adnan
Muhammad Kadir, on Tuesday, in attendance of
Director General of Social Reform Office, met with a
US State of Justice delegation.
General prison conditions in the Kurdistan region
were discussed during the meeting as well as
appropriate mechanisms for approving social,
psychological and health conditions. Establishing a
Federal Prison in Chamchamal and the situation of
prisoners in Suse Federal Prison were also
discussed. They emphasized that prisoners in Suse
Federal Prison should be separated from those
prisoners who were convicted by the KRG courts since
regional and federal laws are different. For that
purpose the KRG Minster of Labor and Social Affairs
emphasized improving the prisoners’ life conditions
in every aspect particularly rehabilitating leisure
rooms, environmental aspects and others.He also
highlighted taking into consideration psychology,
environmental aspects of prisoners. He expressed his
ministry’s desire to cooperation to improve prison
conditions generally and particularly the stability
of its buildings.
Solving Oil Contracts Issue will be Soon: MP
Iraqi MP from Kurdistan Alliance Bloc Bayazed Hassan
expected that the talks between KRG and Baghdad
about the oil contracts will reach positive results
and an agreement on all the problems.
He also said that the talks between KRG Minister of
Natural Resources Ashti Hawrami and the Federal
Government under supervising of the American
Secretary of State assistance for economic affairs
Mr. Robin Jeffery is for issuing the Oil and Gas
Law, which aims to distribute the oil revenues and
states the Regions’ authorities in oil investment
and signing contracts.
Head of KRG Foreign Affairs Discusses Bilateral
Ties with Croatian Ambassador
Mr. Falah Mustafa Baker, the head of KRG Foreign
Affairs Directorate received Mr. York Focus the
Croatian Ambassador to Baghdad. In the meeting, the
joint bilateral ties were discussed; Mr. York Focus
thanked the KRG and the Foreign Affairs Directorate
for facilitating the Croatian Consulate opening in
Kurdistan Region.
Ways of consolidating relations in agriculture,
industry and investment fields were also discussed
in the meeting.
Mr. Falah Mustafa emphasized on KRG’s will to
present all help needed, in order to enhance the
bilateral ties, and serve both sides interests. He
also presented a summary about developments that
Kurdistan Region witnesses and the KRG’s role in
developing the economy of the Region.
On the other side, Mr. York Focus appreciated the
International Conference on Anfal which was held
recently in Erbil and described it as a positive
step in acquainting the world to the Genocide
against the Kurdish People, and expressed his
sympathy towards the Kurdish Issue.
International Companies to Build Dams in
Kurdistan Region
A sources from the Iraqi Ministry of Water
Resources, announced that the Ministry has signed a
number of contracts with international engineering
companies, to prepare the designs and present
engineering and consultation services in order to
build a number of dams and water projects in the
Region.
“The directorate has presented a study to construct
a number of small dams on the valleys in different
parts of Kurdistan Region, to store the seasonal
water that comes from the above mentioned valleys to
use it in agriculture, human usage and other
purposes”, the source added.
Deezy dam, 35km northeast Duhok, Litan dam, north
Sidakan sub district, 180km northwest Erbil ,
Bestana dam near Bestana Village 30km southeast
Erbil are among the dams which are going to be
constructed, according to the announcement.
