Former Prison Building in Sulaimaniyah to be
changed into Park
The former Directorate of Sulaimani Prison will be
changed into a park. The project currently is in its
designing stage, the Mayor of Sulaimaniyah said on
Monday. Both old buildings of Sulaimani Directorate
of Traffic and Directorate of Sulaimani Prison, 8212
square meters, will be turned to a park and more
than 2 million dollars have been allocated by
Sulaimani Governorate for this purpose, a source
from Sulaimaniyah Governorate exclusively told our
web site.
Currently several Turkish and Iranian companies are
competing to design the park, the source added.
The building was built of stones and gypsum during
the reign of the Iraqi Monarchy (19920’s), former
director of Directorate
of Sulaimani Arresting Prison said. The ousted Baath
regime, during its reign, detained thousands of
innocent Kurds in this building and then transferred
them to permanent Baathists prisons.
No Bird Flue Infections in Kurdistan
Dr. Sherko Abdullah, the Director General of
Sulaimaniyah Health Office, denied circulated rumors
about the existence of Bird Flue in Kurdistan, he
said “Press and (WHO) reports shows that there are
fears at the border areas with Iran, We should not
forget that Kurdistan Region was infected by this
disease in 2005, thus the KRG Minister of Health
took precautious measures in order to prevent the
infection and spreading of Bird Flue H5N1 in the
Region. ”The existing Poultry and Eggs at
Sulaimaniyah markets were checked recently, they are
eatable and void of any harms, Dr. Sherko Abdullah
added.
Nichervan Barzani Discusses Bilateral Ties with
Iranian Delegation
Mr. Nichervan Barzani, the KRG Prime Minister
received a delegation from The Islamic Republic of
Iran in Salahadin Resort. The delegation was headed
by Ali Penahi and the membership of Suhiel Kermanji
Iran’s Consul in Erbil.
In a meeting, bilateral relations between Kurdistan
Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran were
discussed in general. They emphasized on
consolidating and developing the economic,
commercial and cultural relations to serve both
sides interests, particularly that Kurdistan Region
is in a process of reconstruction and needs
collaboration from all.
Iraqi Council of Representatives sends Letter to
Conference on Kurdish Genocide in Erbil
On Sunday, the Iraqi parliament sent a letter to the
conference on Kurdish genocide in Erbil, reiterating
its support for the conference. The letter
appreciates holding the conference indicating that
the genocide of the Kurdish people by the ousted
Baath regime was a plan for ethnic cleansing of the
Kurdish people.
The toppled Baath regime during its ethnic cleansing
campaign against Kurds has detained 182000 Kurdish
people to unknown destination, and other 18 000
Barzani civilians, killed 17 000 Kurdish people, and
wounded thousands, the letter reminded the
conference.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives emphasized on
supporting the efforts of the conference in the
future to familiarize this grave tragedy to the
world so that this dark page of the Iraqi history
would be uncovered and such a tragedy never be
committed again, the letter pointed out.
Speaker of KNA receives Delegation from Europe
On Sunday, the speaker of Kurdistan National
Assembly (KNA), Adnan Mufti, received a European
delegation including the deputy chairman of the
Organization for Security and Co-operation in
Europe, MPs from Sweden and Finland parliaments.
During the meeting, the ways to strengthen the joint
relations between KNA and both Finland and Sweden
parliaments were discussed, while the speaker
outlined the key roles of KNA to develop the
relations between Kurdistan region central
government. On their part, the delegation reiterated
their support to the Kurdish democratic experiment.
