Al-Shahristani cannot Cancel the Oil Contracts:
Kurdish Deputy

Bayazed Hassan, the MP from the Kurdistani Alliance
Bloc and member in the Oil and Gas Committee said
that he thinks that there is a personal problem
between the Federal Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahristani
and his counterpart in Kurdistan Region Government
Ashti Hawrami.
In an interview with Radio Sawa, Bayazed said
“al-Shahristani has no right to cancel the Oil
investments contracts signed by KRG and the foreign
companies. He has no authority to do this, because
the Article 141 of the Iraqi Constitution gave the
right to Kurdistan Parliament to sign contracts and
consider it legal, unless it is canceled by the
MPs.” In a private statement to PUKmedia website,
al-Shahristani said that he is ready to visit
Kurdistan Region and explain his Ministry attitude
about these contracts.
President Talabani: We are Doing Our Best to
Implement Article 140

Jalal Talabani, PUK Secretary General met today,
with a number of Kurdistan Region Ministers, MPs and
PUK members in the politburo’s meeting hall in
Sulaimaniyah.
Mala Bakhtiyar PUK Politburo Spokesman, talked about
the meetings of Leadership Committee, PUK and DPK
Politburos and Mr. Jalal Talabani’s one with the
members of PUK organizational centers. President
Jalal Talabani talked about current political
situation in Iraq, the Kurds role in al Maliki
Government and both Kurdish Parties relations with
other political sides he said “In general, Kurds
relations with other Iraqi parties are good “he also
described the Triple agreement between PUK, DPK and
the Iraqi Islamic Party as “A crucial agreement”.
“Obstacles are many, yet Kurds has signed UN
project, implementing this project will be for their
own interest, we are spending our best efforts to
implement this Article.” President Jalal Talabani
said concerning Article 140 Regarding KRG, President
Talabani said “We are satisfied with the performance
of Nichervan Barzani Government, we demand it to
activate the services especially electricity, water
and pavement”. Then the attendees presented their
suggestions about these issues, which were answered
in detail by President Talabani.
Fresh Turkish Warplanes Patrolling into Kurdistan
Region Airspace

Causing escalating panic among the villagers, again
The Turkish war planes have been constantly
patrolling the Kurdistan region airspace for the
last two days. “For the first time since the Turkish
operation launched into Kurdistan region, the
Turkish air forces have been using helicopters for
patrolling Soran and Karoukh bordering areas of
Kurdistan region.” An exclusive source told PUKmedia.
“The aim of Turkish helicopters is probably to make
aerial reconnaissance of the bordering areas.” The
source added.
Two workers' bodies found in Sulaimaniyah

Sulaimaniyah, -- Police forces found two bodies of
workers in a house under construction west of
Sulaimaniyah, a source from the Sulaimaniyah
emergency police department said on Tuesday. "A
citizen informed the police of the two bodies in a
house under construction in Kani Kourda west of
Sulaimaniyah," Lieutenant Umed Mohammad Ahmad told
the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
"They hold Arab nationalities and were working as
two doormen in the same house," he added.
"The bodies of Ivan Hamas Mutlaq, 22, and Ahmad
Islamil, 29, were found in the house," he said.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the cause
of death is the exposure to cold or gasses resulting
from the nearby generator," the lieutenant noted.
Raising Teachers’ Salaries: Ministry of Education

A spokesman from the Iraqi Ministry of Education
announced that the ministry is going to exempt the
teachers with salaries less than 700.000 ID from
taxes, and raise their salaries as following: 25%
for Diploma Degree, 30% for Bachelor's Degree, 50%
for Masters Degree and 75% for Doctorate Degree. The
spokesman also added that there is 50.000 ID raise
for married people and a transportation fees between
20-60
thousand ID for far distances.Also there is a raise
amount of 25% for the managers, assistances and
supervisors, while the co-manager will get 15%.
Exchanging Coins with Paper Notes Currency in
Kurdistan Region Banks

A source from the Regional Ministry of Financial
Affairs, in condition of anonymity, said “the
ministry decided to exchange the 25, 50 and 100
Iraqi dinar coins. Banks are going to receive these
coins from the citizens and to be exchanged with a
paper currency.”
“The decision starts to be implemented from 3-1-2008
to 1-2-2008”, the source added.
Kurdistani Alliance: Disagreement Between al-Shahristani
and KRG is Constitutional

Kurdistani Alliance Bloc spokesman Firyad Rawandozi
said that the expected negotiations between the Oil
Minister Hussein al-Shahristani and KRG officials
about the oil contracts is the best way to solve the
problems.
In a statement to Radio Sawa, Rawandozi said that
the disagreement between Baghdad and Kurdistan
Region Governments is constitutional.
He also said that this disagreement can be solved by
the Constitutional Court or through dialogue.
Erbil… US Congress Delegation Visits Kurdistan

After a meeting with Mr. Masud Barzani, Kurdistan
Region President and discussing the political
progress in the Iraqi, Kurdistani fields, extending
Article 140 issue and the Turkish Strikes on
Kurdistan Villages, The Public Party Delegation
headed by Norm Coleman, Senator in Minnesota state
met yesterday in Erbil, with Mr. Nichervan Barzani
KRG Prime Minister .
During a meeting which was attended by a number of
Ministers, Head of Foreign Affairs in KRG and the US
Consul in Kurdistan, the Delegation head expressed
his delight to visit Kurdistan and to the
development that the Region witnesses in various
aspects commending the Kurdish People historical
Struggle and the Kurdistani Leadership role in
establishing New Iraq, and asserted on the strong
relations between Kurdistan Region and US and ways
of consolidating these relations.
After he welcomed the Delegation, Mr. Nichervan

Supporting Kurdistan experiment in achieving

President Talabani inaugurates new Building of
Kurdistan Women Union

In a special ceremony which was attended by a number
of KRG officials, the Iraqi President, his
Excellency Jalal Talabani, inaugurated the new
building of Kurdistan Women Union in Sulaimaniyah.
During the ceremony President Talabani called on the
woman rights activists to help and assist all the
Iraqi women without any difference and work for
providing better opportunity for them to share in
developing the community.
Kurdish Delegation visits Iraqi Embassy in
Germany 6.1.2008
Daily the Kurdish refugees have been complaining and
expressing their dissatisfaction about the poor
performance of the Iraqi embassy in Germany while
they comprise the largest shares of the Iraqi
refugees in Germany.
Their problems are related to the lack of active
employees to take appropriate measures to work the
embassy procedure out and the hindrances made by the
embassy for the Kurdish refugees through denying the
Iraqi identity cards and other official documents
issued in Kurdistan region alleging as fake and
null. For clarifying the disputed issues related the
Kurdish refugees in Germany, on 3rd January a
Kurdish delegation, including the representatives of
the Kurdish organizations in Germany, chief of
relations bureau of PUK organization office in
Germany and director of Sulaimaniyah passport office,
paid a visit to the Iraqi embassy in Germany.
After being warmly received by the ambassador and
intense discussion on the concerns and problems of
Kurdish refugees in Germany, the delegation
submitted a memorandum to Iraqi ambassador to
Germany, Alla al-Hashimi. On his part, the
ambassador expressed his willingness towards the
visit of the delegation, hoping for better
cooperation and coordination among the official
sectors of Iraqi governments in and outside the

Later he ascribed the
problems of the Iraqi refugees particularly the
Kurdish, to many causes including lack of
coordination between the KRG and Iraqi embassies and
other issues related the Iraqi interior and foreign
ministries, calling for better coordination between
the KRG respective ministries and the Iraqi central
ministries. The ambassador expressed his commitment
to perform the works of Kurdish refugees and further
coordinate with the organizations.
Benazir Bhutto talked about her Kurdishness

The Iraqi ambassador to Sweden, Ahmad Bamarne, was
talking about his first meeting with the former
Pakistani Prime Minister, the late Benazir Bhutto
saying:
“As PUK representative, I and Latif Rashid were
delegated to social international conference held in
Lisbon, Portugal in 2001. The late Benazir Bhutto
was also one of the members of the conference. For
dinner, all of members of the conference were
invited by the mayor of Lisbon city. Such kind of
invitation was to self introducing and exchange
views.”
“Hoshiyar Zebari and Dilshad Miran were the KDP
representatives in the conference, Mr.Latif and Mr.
Zebari were in the heart of the crowd laughing, and
I joint them and said “What are you laughing at?”
“We heard that Benazir Bhutto is Kurdish.” They
replied me. Later I said I already heard that, and
then I went to her.
“I introduced myself to her as PUK representative in
the conference; suddenly she said “One of my origins
is Kurdish.” Latif and Zebari came to us while we
were in the middle of chatting. I introduced both of
them to her. Then she started talking about her
origin. “The mother of my grandmother is Kurdish,
from Kirmashan. She went to Najaf, thereafter
married and returned to Pakistan with her husband.”
Bhutto said.
“You know, when I was young, I had a light blond
hair, and I was told that both the color of my hair
and insistence on my views inherited from Kurds.”
