Turkish Warplanes Make an Aerial Surveillance over Qandeel Areas

In an exclusive statement to our website, a private source in condition of anonymity said “4 Turkish warplanes made an aerial surveillance over the areas of Karoukh, Qandeel Foot and Baleyan from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am yesterday.”
Eyewitnesses said that these planes were looking for the PKK bases in the border areas between Iraq and Turkey.
It’s worth mentioning that the Turkish warplanes made several air surveillance operations and stroke the border areas several times since 16/12 under the pretext of the existence of PKK elements in these areas.

Council of Kurdistan Region Political Parties’ Delegation to visit Syria

Following their visit to both Turkey and Iran, the delegation of Supreme Council of the Kurdistan Region Political Parties will visit Syria and to discuss the situation in Iraq and the area with the officials there.
“Our discussions and meetings with the Syrian officials will focus on the issues related to the area and the neighboring countries as well as Iraq’s issues with the neighboring countries, Secretary General of Kurdistan Toilers Party (KTP), Mr. Qadir Aziz told PUKmedia on Friday.
“Our relations with Syria is in preferable level .It is expected that several special topics related to the bilateral relations between both sides which will affect several aspects including ,security situation, economy and those issues that are unsolved till now between both sides will be discussed during the visit, he added.

Resignation of KRG Minister of Extra-regional Affairs dismissed

The office of the KRG ministry of extra-regional affairs dismissed the rumor claiming the resignation of the extra-regional minister, Muhammad Ihsan, which was recently published by several news agencies.
In a statement from the office of the ministry from which PUKmedia received a copy saying that the news is baseless.
“Such sort of rumor does not serve the Kurdish issue, but on the contrary it serves the Kurdish enemys' interests. We, however, expressed our dissatisfaction about the performance of the Iraqi government regarding implementation of article 140 and its extension for the next six month, it does not mean that we have to surrender or resign. We are committed to take our full responsibility to get the article democratically implemented which brings the rights of Kurdish people back. Article 140 is a constitutional one voted for by 80 percent of the Iraqi people. We hope that 2008 will be a year of bringing the isolated areas back to Kurdistan region”. The statement further added.

Crocker Welcomes the Postponement of Implementing Article 140

The American ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker said that U.S. is ready for the 4th round of talks with the Iraqi and Iranian governments about the security dossier in Iraq. In a statement to Radio Sawa, he said that a decision about this issue will be made soon, where the talks with the Iraqi government are continuous to identify a date for the triple talks.Crocker also welcomed the postponement of implementing the Article 140 for six months and the U.N. decision to present the technical assistant. He emphasized the necessity of making this matter relative to Iraqis only.
Crocker also said that the recent year will witness a political development between the Iraqi parties as a result of the security stability.

President Jalal Talabani in Kirkuk….

During his visit on Thursday to Kirkuk, the Iraqi President, his Excellency Jalal Talabani, met a number of the political parties’ members and officials of that city. Among them, the Iraqi President met the head of Kirkuk provincial council, Rizgar Ali, and Kirkuk governor Abdulrahman Mustafa, asserting the better improvement of the security situation and performance of the projects in Kirkuk.

During that visit, President Talabani asserted that Kirkuk deserves more since it was oppressed and neglected by the ousted Baath regime.
“We try our best to make 2008 be year of offering better service to rehabilitate and develop the city in all aspects.” The President added.
On their part, the officials presented their concerns and demands which were taken into consideration by the President, Jalal Talabani.

Later, President Talabani met the PUK officials in Kirkuk, calling for bringing all the Iraqi political parties together, adding “As Kurdistan Alliance Bloc in Baghdad, we are proud of being arbitrator and mediator among the parties. Many people in and outside of the country expect us to achieve a real national unity.” With respect to Kirkuk issue, as PUK Secretary General, Mr. Jalal Talabani outlined some instructions and recommendations, reiterating that Kirkuk question needs calm and wise policy in addition to illustrating the significance of strengthening fraternity among Kurds, original Arabs, Chaldeans, and Assyrians in Kirkuk. Regarding article 140, President Talabani said “Article 140 is an important constitutional article, so it should be implemented in a same way mentioned in the constitution.” 

“Our problem in Kirkuk is legitimate; we should present it wisely and exert untiring efforts for it since all the geographical, historical and political logics are in our hand.” He added.
