Iran: Kurdish man killed, two held over
Iranian police murders

Kermanshah, Iranian Kurdistan,-- Police in
western Iran killed an armed Kurdish man and
arrested two others they accuse of murdering a local
Iranian police chief and seven police officers
Pasdaran (Revolutionary Guard), Iranian news agency
ISNA reported on Friday.
Police seized explosives and wireless equipment from
the men described as "anti-revolutionaries", ISNA
quoted Ahmad Garavand, head of police in Kermanshah
province, as saying.
Garavand said the Kurdish group killed the head of a
police station in the nearby Iranian province of
Kurdistan and had been involved in the killing of
seven police officers (Islamic Revolutionary Guard)
at a checkpoint in September. He did not give
further details.
Officials previously said the seven police killed in
September had been involved in a clash with bandits.
Iran's Kurdistan, Kermanshah and West Azarbaijan
provinces, which have substantial Kurdish
populations, have been the scene of clashes between
Iranian forces and Kurdish separatist militants of
the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan or PJAK.
The Kurdish rebel group PJAK (Party of Free Life of
Kurdistan), has been behind a string of deadly
attacks on the Iranian revolutionary guard in
(Iranian Kurdistan),www.ekurd.net
northwestern Iran in recent
months. Since 2004 PJAK took up arms for self-rule in the
country's mainly Kurdistan province northwestern of
Iran. Half the members of PEJAK are women.
PJAK, which believed to be linked to the Turkey's Kurdistan Workers'
Party (PKK) fighting the Turkish army, has been
behind a string of deadly attacks in the Kurdish
northwest Iran in recent months.

Iranian Kurdistan (Kurdish: Kurdistana Īranź or
Kurdistana Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) or Rojhilatź
Kurdistan (East of Kurdistan)) is an unofficial name
for the parts of Iran inhabited by Kurds and has
borders with Iraq and Turkey. It includes the
greater parts of West Azerbaijan province, Kurdistan
Province, Kermanshah Province, and Ilam Province.
Kurds form the majority of the population of this
region with an estimated population of 4 million.
The region is the eastern part of the greater
cultural-geographical area called Kurdistan.

Ahmadi. According to the Washington Times, half the
members of PEJAK are women, many of them still in
their teens, and one of the female members of the
leadership council is Gulistan Dugan, a psychology
graduate from the University of Tehran. This is due
primarily to the fact that PEJAK is strongly
supportive of women's rights. PEJAK believes that
women must have a strong role in government and must
be on an equal level with men in leadership
positions.
