Kurdish Peshmerga troops ready to provide military
assistance to US forces in Samara, The first
Battalion from the third Brigade in Sulaimaniyah,
moved to Iraqi Samara city as a response for the
Iraqi Interior Ministry’s request,www.ekurd.net
in order to control the
security situation there.
Samara, 62 miles (100 kilometers) north of Iraqi
capital Baghdad.
A source from the first Battalion exclusively stated
to PUK media website "The aim of moving the first
Battalion from Sulaimaniyah Brigade to Samara, to
control the security situation. The city was
unstable in the last period. Two other Battalions
will also be headed to Samara soon." |

It’s worth mentioning
that the above mentioned Battalion had previously
participated in military operations Baghdad in order
to secure stability there.
Like the Americans, Kurdish troops are a slender
peacekeeping force standing between the warring
Sunni Arabs and Shiite Arabs and to fighting

commanders consider them
a critical part of the escalation in Baghdad because
of their fighting prowess and perceived neutrality.
About 2,100 have been brought into the Iraqi capital
in 2007.
In
April 2007,
more than 5,000 Kurdish Peshmerga troops have been
recruited after the announcement of security plan
and they form the bulk of forces leading the drive
against insurgents in Baghdad.
On
June 14, 2007,
over 2,000 Kurdish fighters 'Peshmerga' (Kurdistan
national guard) were deployed in restive Diyala
province to support US and Iraqi forces fighting
insurgents.
On
May 10, 2007
Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region has sent 1,000
peshmerga troops to its border with Iran to prevent
attacks by the Islamist insurgent group Ansar
al-Islam.
