Helsinki, Finland, -- The Helsinki
Administrative Court has suspended the deportation
order issued to the Iranian-Kurdish asylum-seeker
Naze Aghai.
The court said that the temporary suspension of a
deportation order is not unusual in such cases and
does not indicate a final decision in Aghai's
favour.
On Monday this week the Directorate of Immigration
rejected another residency application and ordered
Aghai to be deported. After an earlier failed
refugee permit, Aghai hid from the authorities, and
was given sanctuary by a church in Turku in June.
Aghai claims to have left her homeland following
persecution, torture and an arranged marriage. She
says she fears
maltreatment in her native Iran, especially because
of her Kurdish political links and background.
