Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', (ekurd.net),--
Kurdish security forces (Asayish) in Sulaimaniyah on
Wednesday morning arrested Tariq Fateh, the licence
owner of the Kurdish newspaper Hawlati, after it
published an article criticizing the brother of the
Kurdish deputy premier Omer Fatah, the press
councillor of the newspaper said.
"Sulaimaniyah police forces raided the headquarters
of Hawlati newspaper in Aqari area in the center of
Sulaimaniyah city and arrested its owner Tariq Fateh,"
Twana Othman said.
"Fateh's arrest is related to a complaint filed
against him by Ali Fattah the brother of Kurdistan's
deputy premier Omer Fattah, who accused Fateh of
publishing an article against him," Othman
explained.

Fateh and the paper's former editor-in-chief Asos
Herdi were referred to the court last February in a
case raised by the former Kurdish premier Omar
Fatah, who accused the newspaper of publishing an
article slandering him.
The two were sentenced to six months behind bars,
but the judgment was stayed and a 75,000 Iraqi
diners fine was issued for each of them.
Hawlati is bi-weekly independent newspaper issued in
Sulaimaniyah, established in late 2000 as a first independent newspaper issued in
Kurdistan region.
Despite the demand for news in Iraqi Kurdistan,
there are only two private newspapers Hawlati and
Awene. All other media in Kurdistan is funded by the
political parties, which these days are synonymous
with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
