Duhok, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- A total of
55 people were arrested in the Turkish border region
for attempting to infiltrate into Turkey, an
official source from the border guard forces in
Duhok province said on Wednesday.
"Fifty five persons were arrested by guard forces in
regions near Qroula, Peshabour, on the Iraqi
Kurdistan-Turkish borders on Tuesday night for
attempting to sneak into Turkey," Lt. Colonel Delir
Farzanda Zebari, the official in charge of a border
guards unit in Dirbon, Zakho, said.
"Those arrested were local residents of Duhok,
Sinjar and Erbil," he added.
"Their ages range from 17 to 25, and each one of
them paid between USD 300-600 to smugglers to reach
Turkey," he also said.
Zebari said the infiltrators confessed to attempting
to enter Turkey illegally.
Kurdistani border guard forces in Duhok have
arrested more than 420 people during the past six
months in different areas near the Iraqi
Kurdistan-Turkish borders for attempting to sneak
