The Swedish Government decided to send back
Kurdish asylum seekers
The Swedish high officials had made their final
decision to send Kurdish asylum seekers back to
their country of origin. The decision has not been
carried out yet due to the Kurdistan Regional
Government’s opposition.
Burhan Habib, PUK representative in Sweden told
(Kurdistani Nwe) the visit of Swedish ministers of
foreign affairs and immigrants and migration to Iraq
was for the same purpose. They had a plan to visit
Kurdistan region, but they postponed their visit due
to spread of the cholera disease. Habib attributed
the cause of deportation to the outbreak of
immigration wave to Sweden. Since January 1 2007,
till July more than 20,000 refugees sneaked into the
country that more than 10,000 of them are Iraqis and
this number is considered as too high compared to
past years. In 2006 only 20,000 people asked for
asylum.
Habib also confirmed that the situation of the
refugees in Sweden is presently very bad and no
Iraqi is given the right of asylum.
