Iraq: Armed men assassinate member from Kurdistan

Mosul, Northwest Iraq, -- Unknown armed men
assassinated on Sunday a member from the Islamic
Union in the city of Mosul northern Iraq, while a
leading Kurdish leader escapes another assassination
attempt in Kirkuk.
An Iraqi police source from Mosul said the armed men
shot and killed Ali Yassin Sulaiman, a member from
the Kurdish Islamic Union in Al-Tahreer district
north east of Mosul.
Meanwhile, a source from Kirkuk police said Najah
Hassan, a prominent figure in the Kurdistan
Democratic Party (KDP), escaped an ssassination
attempt when an improvised bomb targeted his convoy
near Kirkuk general hospital.
The bomb injured one guard and a bystander, the
source added.
On another front, police director of Al-Aqdyia on
the outskirts of Kirkuk arrested three armed men who
belong to the outlawed Islamic Iraq State group,
among them a leader who carries a Syrian nationality
ID.
Police director Serhad Qader said in a press
conference that his department received information
concerning three armed men who were stationed in
Hawaija southwest of Kirkuk.
A raid was launched and the three were arrested, two
Iraqis and one Syrian, Qader said.
