Prague, Czech Rep., -- Czech Prime Minister
Mirek Topolánek expressed his government's
willingness to help build a new Iraq, a statement
from the Czech Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.
During his reception of Iraqi Foreign Minister
Hoshyar Zebari in Prague on Monday morning,
Topolanek said that bilateral relations with Iraq
are a top priority in the Czech political agenda.
"The Czech government is following up on the
developments of events in Iraq and is ready to
continue offering help to the Iraqi government to
build a new Iraq…," the statement indicated.
Zebari expressed his government's gratitude for "the
support offered by the Czech government with regards
to providing stability and security, and training
Iraqi security forces…," the statement said.
Describing the Czech government's solidarity with
Iraq as a "long-term investment that serves the
interests of the people of both countries," Zebari
gave a detailed overview of recent developments in
the political and security situation in Iraq, and
expressed his government's keenness to settle
unresolved issues.
Czech, Iraqi ministers for more intensive

Zebari told CTK earlier today that Iraq would
welcome it if the Czech Republic still provided
training to the Iraqi police and help in other
spheres. He said it was vital for Iraqis to be able
to provide for their security in their own right.
Petr Voznica, Czech ambassador to Afghanistan, told
journalists that Czech export has already reached
$57.5 million this year.
"We have opportunities in Iraq, we are welcomed
there," Voznica said. He said that the Iraqi side
was able to meet its commitments and that Czech
entrepreneurs could receive precise information on
the security situation in individual Iraqi provinces
and on new Iraqi laws from the embassy.
The Czech Republic has been participating in
reconstruction projects in Iraq since 2003. Czech
experts trained Iraqi diplomats, police and customs
officers, and judges, Iraqi children have been
treated in Czech hospitals. First big business deals
have appeared, namely in oil industry.
Zebari said the security situation in Iraq was of
crucial importance. He warned of premature
withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. The impact
would be devastating and disastrous, he said.
Zebari who is on three-day official visit in the
Czech Republic is to meet Czech senators on Tuesday.
