Baghdad, -- The Egyptian government has
decided to facilitate the grant of entry visas to
Iraqis according to a statement issued by the office
of Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi on Monday.
Hashimi received "a message from Egyptian Prime
Minister Ahmed Nazif, who stressed Egypt's readiness
to facilitate entry visas for Iraqis," said.
The message of the Egyptian premier "involved
instructions from the Egyptian government to the
authorities concerned to ease visa procedures for
Iraqis to enter their second country: Egypt."
"The message also said the measures will involve
certain controls, striking a balance between Iraqi
demands, on the one hand, and Egyptian political and
security considerations on the other," noted the
statement.
Nazif indicated in his message that "the situation
of Iraqi students in Egypt has been modified.
Students were given one-year residence by virtue of
an approved school entry certificate."
A source from Hashimi's office told VOI that the
Iraqi vice president has sent several messages to
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Prime Minister
Nazif and Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit
requesting restrictions to be eased for Iraqis'
entry to Egypt.
