Mariwan, Iranian Kurdistan, -- Dissident
Kurdish journalists Adnan Hassanpour and Hiwa
Boutimar, both sentenced death by an Iranian court
are now in their 39th day of a hunger strike,
accepting only water and a handful of salt per day,
Hassanpour's sister Leyla told.AKI.
"Lawyers who have been able to meet my brother and
Hiwa say they are skin and bone. You don't need to
be a medic to understand they are in a pitiful
physical and mental state," she said.
"They have never been seen by a doctor since they
began their hunger strike," she added.
"Tehran is convinced that they can kill two Kurds
with impunity by allowing them to die in prison,"
said Leyla. She urged the Italian and French
government as well as Italian campaign groups to
prevent "the slow death to which Adnan and Hiwa seem
condemned. |
