Erbil-Hewler, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- A
website close to the
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) pointed the finger
at Turkish and Syrian intelligence agencies for
masterminding the recent bomb attacks against Yezidi
Kurds in the Mosul province that left at least
400 Kurdish Yazidis dead.
A recent report aired on the Web site of the
Peyamner news agency based in Kurdistan region said
there are claims that Turkish and Syrian
intelligence have been collaborating to mobilize
Sunni insurgents in the region against Kurds.
It claimed Turkey held a meeting in Ankara to unite
these groups under one party.
It also said the Mosul Consulate of Turkey is being
used to coordinate the activities of the insurgents.
It claimed there are at least 70 security officers
at the consulate who are in fact working for Turkish
intelligence. The site said the officers leave the
consulate in unmarked cars and travel into areas
where neither Iraqi nor American forces can enter.
It claimed the Turks wonder freely without any fear
for their lives in Arab quarters.
The KDP site said it is strange that Turkey is
maintaining a consulate in Mosul where there are no
Turks and said instead it does not open a consulate
in Erbil or Sulaimaniyah in Kurdistan autonomous
region (Iraq) where tens of thousands of Turks live.
Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani
recently condemned the attack against the Yezidis,
a 340-strong Kurdish Peshmerga force was sent to northwestern Iraq's district of Sinjar to restore
security and provide protection to the afflicted
community, an official Peshmerga source said on
August 16.
"The force will remain in the district until the
security situation is secure," Peshmerga Commander
Maj. Gen. Aziz Waizy said.
Barzani who is currently in Baghdad said the aim of
the attacks is to driver the Kurds out of the Mosul
region.
Foreign Ministry sources in the Turkish capital on
Tuesday expressed their uneasiness with a report
that targeted Turkey's consulate general in the
northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the Anatolia news
agency reported.
