Iraqi VP Adel meets with Iraq's Kurdistan

Baghdad, -- Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul
Mahdi discussed with Iraq's Kurdistan President
Massoud Barzani the on-going preparations for the
political blocs' leaders meeting expected to convene
within the upcoming days, Mahdi's office said in a
statement on Monday.
"A date for the meeting that will include Iraqi
President along with his two deputies, the Prime
Minister and Iraq's Kurdistan President will be set
within the next 48 hours," the statement quoted
Abdul Mahdi as saying.
The statement added "the meeting will discuss the
means necessary to handle the lingering issues in
Iraq as to governance, decision-making and laying
out general policies."
On Sunday, a statement released by the presidency
office said Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and
Iraq's Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani discussed
in Baghdad means to push the stalled political
process forward and to handle the lingering
problems. |

"The two officials held talks addressing latest
political developments in the Iraqi arena and in
Kurdistan region," the Iraqi president's office
said. The Kurdish leaders also stressed on the
significance of a true participation by the blocs
"in governing the country, decision making and
laying out public policies."
"Presidents Talabani and Barzani emphasized the need
to meet the legitimate demands of the people in
Iraq's Kurdistan region and the importance of the
role played by the Kurdistan alliance in finding
solutions to the political crisis through bringing
together conflicting views held by different
political blocs," the statement also added.
The two sides, the statement noted, discussed the
means and mechanisms necessary to push the political
process forward for serving the public good,
rescuing the country from the current dilemma,
solving the lingering issues through dialogue and
intensifying the frank and active consultations
among the political blocs in the upcoming days.
Earlier on Sunday, Kurdistan Presidency said in a
statement that Iraq's Kurdistan President Massoud
Barzani arrived in Baghdad to take part in a meeting
scheduled for leaders of parliamentary blocs on the
security situation in the country and means to get
out from the crisis that affected the political
process in Iraq.
"President Barzani left to Baghdad, on Saturday
evening, heading a political and administrative
delegation representing Kurdistan region to
participate in the meeting scheduled for Iraqi
political leaders," Kurdistan Presidency office said
Sunday. They added "Barzani will act, during this
visit, to handle the current Iraqi crisis between
the Iraqi government and Kurdistan region
government."
It is scheduled that President Barzani will start
his meetings and talks with Iraqi political leaders,
including Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani and
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, as early as Sunday,
the statement noted. Barzani's visit to Baghdad was
delayed until the return of the Iraqi Premier Nouri
al-Maliki from a visit that included Turkey and
Iran.
Talabani receives Barzani, Maliki
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will hold a lunch
banquet on Tuesday in honor of Iraqi Kurdistan
region President Massoud Barzani and Iraqi Prime
Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a member of the committee
preparing for the Iraqi political leaders meeting
said.
"The Iraqi president will host a banquet to be
attended by Barazani, who is now on a visit to
Baghdad, and Maliki, as well as others," Fouad
Ma'soum said.
On statements made by Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashimi
that he had not received an official invitation to
attend the political blocs leaders' meeting, to be
convened in Baghdad in hours, Ma'soum said, "...the
party of Hashimi is participating in the works of
the preparatory committee. Thus, the matter does not
require an invitation. No invitations were sent to
Maliki, Talabani or Barzani."
Yunadem Konna, a member of parliament and leader of
the Assyrian Democratic Movement, said that
Tuesday's meeting will be attended by the five main
blocs of the Iraqi parliament.
