Iraqi Kurdistan president and former Iraqi
PM discuss Moderates' Front Formation

Iraq's Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani discussed
in a meeting on Saturday with former Iraqi Prime
Minister and head of the secular Iraqi National List
Ayad Allawi the formation of the Moderates' Front.
"Both leaders discussed issues related to the
formation of the quadrilateral Moderates' Front
which will be opened for other blocs to join," Fuad
Hussein, head of Kurdistan presidential office, said
Replied to a question as to whether the meeting
discussed the formation of the national salvation
front called for by Allawi, Hussein said "the
meeting did not touch upon that."
The Secular Iraqi National List headed by the former
Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad allawi holds 24 seats in
the 275-mamber-parliament .

As regards media reports on an expected Barzani's
visit to Baghdad on Sunday, Hussein said "President
Barzani has no intention to visit Baghdad soon."
Other sources close to the Kurdish leader said "the
region leadership sought convincing Ayad Allawi to
join the Moderates' front which is expected to be
announced within the few upcoming days."
Meanwhile, legislator Osama al-Nujaifi, from
Allawi's bloc, said "Head of the bloc Dr. Ayad
Allawi has left Erbil to Beirut and I am not
informed so far of the results of his meeting with
President Barzani."
The quadrilateral Moderates' Front is a new alliance
composed of the two major Kurdish parties the
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headed by Iraqi
President Jalal al-Talabani and the Kurdistan
Democratic Party headed by Kurdistan region
President Massoud Barzani along with the Shiite
Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council led by Abdul-Aziz
al-Hakim and Dawa party led by Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki.
The founding parties seek the participation of other
political blocs in the new alliance.
Earlier on Saturday, Kurdistan region presidency
office said in a statement that Barzani met Allawi
in Erbil on the latest political developments in
Iraq.
"The meeting discussed, among other issues, the
formation of a new alliance that would include some
Iraqi political forces," the statement added.
The meeting comes as the Sunni Accordance front
withdrew its ministers from Maliki's cabinet.
In another statement, Kurdistan region presidency
office said that U.S. President George W. Bush
discussed in a phone call with Barazani the latest
developments in Iraq and means to get out from the
current Iraqi government crisis.
