Duhok, Kurdistan region (Iraq), July 25, --
Twelve people were arrested in the Turkish border
region for attempting to infiltrate into Turkey, an
official source from the border guard forces in
Duhok province said on Wednesday.
"Twelve people were arrested in the Turkish border
region near Qroula village, west of Zakho, on
Tuesday night for attempting to infiltrate into
Turkey," Lt. Colonel Delir Farzanda Zebari, the
official in charge of a Kurdistan border guards unit
in Dirbon, Zakho, said.
"Those arrested were local residents of Shikhan and
Sinjar regions," he added.
Zebari said the infiltrators confessed to attempting
to illegally enter Turkey.
Border guard forces in Duhok arrested more than 400
people during the past six months in different parts
near to the Iraqi Kurdistan-Turkish borders for
attempting to sneak into Turkey.
Most of them are young Kurdish men from different
parts of Kurdistan and Iraq.
Duhok is the third province within Iraq's autonomous
Kurdistan region. It is in the far north of Iraq
with borders with Turkey.
