Foundation stone laid for bridge in Zakho, near Iraqi-Syrian borders

Duhok, -- Iraqi Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani laid on Thursday the foundation stone for a concrete bridge on the River Tigris in the district of Zakho, near the Iraqi-Syrian borders, at a cost of more than 11 million dollars.

"The bridge, to be built in the area of Bishabour (10 km west of Zakho), would link Sinjar and Zammar to Duhok province," Engineer Ibrahim Ahmed, director of the roads and bridges department in Duhok, said.

He said the bridge will be of grave importance from an economic and trade perspective, noting the area is considered the main road leading to Syria.

In 2003 Duhok built a temporary bridge on the River Tigris but collapsed several times due to floods.
Zakho is 60 km northwest of Duhok in Kurdistan autonomous region.

Iraqi Human Rights Minister: There is no Sign of Torture in Sulaimani Security Prison

On July 19, Wijdan Salim, Iraqi Minister of Human Rights during a press conference with all the Iraqi and Kurdistan Medias, talked about her visits to the Iraqi prisons. "Today I visited Suse, Kani Goma, and Sulaimani Security prisons" she said, pointing out some notices about the prisoners’ situations.

Iraqi Human Rights Minister admitted that there is delay in presenting the detainees to the court in all Iraqi prisons.
In her answer to the PUKmedia's question about Sulaimaniyah security detainees’ situations; Wijdan said:" I saw the situations of Iraqi and Sulaimaniyah security prisoners, there were no signs of torture in their faces and bodies”.

US Forces to Open 3 Trade Offices in Kurdistan Region

Mohamed Rauf, the KRG Minister of trade, received Major John Wilson from the civil affairs of US forces in Kurdistan Region.

During a meeting the US forces projects' for further reconstruction of Kurdistan Region were discussed.
KRG Minister of trade told the visiting delegation that if a small rate of the allocated budget for security situations in Iraq was allocated to renovation of Kurdistan Region vital progress takes place in Kurdistan.

On their side the US delegation showed their intentions to open 3 trade centers in the three cities of Kurdistan Region, promising at the same time to discus and follow up the projects in Kurdistan Region.
