Mariwan, Iranian Kurdistan, -- Kurdish political parties and
rights groups on Tuesday begin a three day protest
campaign against what they say are systematic
violations of human rights in Iran. Three Kurdish
writers and a trade unionist were arrested by the
Iranian security forces on the eve of the
mobilisation. The people of Kurdistan in Iran went
on strike on Monday 23 July 2007 and will continue
until Thursday 26th 2007, for the death sentence of
the two Kurdish journalists.
World Press ignores the General Strike in Iranian
Kurdistan, none of the world press reported this
brave act of the Kurds.
In a statement, the protest organisers urged all
Kurdish Iranians to embark on a 72 hour hunger
strike and where possible not go to work.
The initiative was decided after the
sentencing to death
last Tuesday of Kurdish journalists Adnan
Hosseinpour and Hiwa Boutimar, accused of subversive
activities and contacts with illegal organisations.
As well as the two, another Kurdish journalist,
Ejlal Aghvami, editor of Payam Kurdistan, is also in
custody.
Also detained by the security forces are Sadegh
Kabudvand, director for the Centre for Human Rights
of Iranian Kurdistan, and trade unionists Mahmoud
Salehi e Loghman Mohri.
The home phone of Adnan Hosseinpour, has been
inundated with phone calls in recent days, as people
expressed their concern and solidarity with his
elderly mother after the news of the death sentence.
