Turkish artillery shells border region of
Iraqi Kurdistan

Duhok, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- The
Turkish forces shelled border regions in Zakho
district on Wednesday, a security source from the
border guard forces in Duhok province said on
Thursday.
"More than 30 cannonballs hit Shlash Dar, Serakork,
Afla and Berbla regions in Zakho district, northwest
of Duhok, late Wednesday" the source, said.
"The shelling lasts for an hour without causing
casualties," he added.
Meanwhile, local residents from shelled regions said
that the Turkish artillery shelled Kurdistan region
near to the Deshesh village on borders with Turkey.
"The shelling caused no casualties but spread fear
among the residents," an eyewitness said.
Duhok is the third province within Iraq's Kurdistan
autonomous region It is in the far north of Iraq
with borders with Turkey. It is located 460 km north
of Iraqi Baghdad.

called Turkey to respect
Iraq’s sovereignty after Ankara has
been threatening to carry out a military operation
if the triple committee conversations can’t solve
the problem.
"Turkey should respect Iraq as a sovereign country
having a democracy and respect Iraqi citizens will",
said Abdul Bari Zebari, the Kurdistan Alliance
representative in Iraqi parliament.
