Baghdad, -– Iraqi President Jalal Talabani
sent a congratulatory cable on Monday to Turkish
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his win in
the recent parliamentary elections, hoping friendly
relations between the two neighboring countries
would be boosted.
"The Turkish people crowned your Justice and
Development Party (AKP) with glory and victory by
historic overwhelming confidence," read a statement
by the Iraqi president's office.
"Let us hope for expanded and friendly relations
between the two neighborly peoples of Iraq and
Turkey to the interest of the two countries,"
Talabani said in his congratulatory cable.
Iraqi-Turkish relations were recently marred by
remarkable tension after Turkey
massed thousands of troops on the
joint borders. |
