Erbil, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- A network
suspected of being behind the blasts that took place
recently in Erbil and Makhmour was arrested, Iraq's
Kurdistan President Massoud Barzani said on
Saturday.
"I would like to send a message to both peoples of
Iraqi and Kurdistan, and to express my sincerest
thanks to the public and security institutions,
which helped in the arrest of this network," Barzani
said in a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime
Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Erbil.
A statement released on Thursday by the Iraqi
Kurdistan Regional Security Protection Agency, which
is affiliated to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP),
announced the arrest of a number of people, who were
believed to have had a hand in the recent bombings
that tore through Erbil, the capital of Iraq's
Kurdistan region, and the town of Makhmour, 63 km
southwest of Erbil. |
