Bush, Barzani discuss Kurdistan's
developments by phone

Erbil, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- U.S.
President George W. Bush made a phone call to the
President of Iraq's Kurdistan region Massoud
Barzani, while U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John
Negroponte arrived in the region, a statement
released from Barzani's office said on Thursday.
"President Bush phoned Massoud Barzani on Wednesday
night, during which they discussed the latest
developments in Iraq and in Kurdistan," read the
statement received by VOI.
"The U.S. president voiced his country's commitment
to the democratic process in Iraq and emphasized the
alliance between the two countries for the good of
the Iraqi people," the statement also said.
"He expressed respect and appreciation to the
Kurdish president for his active and positive role
within the Iraqi political process," it noted. |

Meanwhile, Barzani received the visiting U.S. Deputy
Secretary of State John Negroponte and David
Satterfield, the senior adviser on Iraq to U.S.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, at Salahalddin
resort on Wednesday.
"The meeting dwelt with the latest developments in
Iraq's Kurdistan as well as Baghdad' law-imposing
plan," read another statement released from
Barzani's office.
Negroponte, who arrived in Iraq last Tuesday, met
with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Prime Minister
Nuri al-Maliki and a number of senior Iraqi
officials to discuss political and security issues
in the country.
John Negroponte served as U.S. Ambassador to the
country from June 2004 to April 2005.
