Iraqi president Jalal Talabani to visit
Iran this week

Baghdad, -- Iraqi President Jalal Talabani
would pay a visit to Tehran this week, state Iraqi
sources said here Saturday.
The sources told IRNA that Talabani's visit to
Tehran may take place early this week and that he is
expected to meet with senior Iranian officials
including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The sides would discuss issues of mutual interest
and ways to strengthen Tehran-Baghdad relations,
they stated.
They confirmed reports that Talabani has called on
Iranian officials to resume the second round of
talks with US on Iraq. |

The first round of Iran-US talks on Iraq was held on
May 28 in Baghdad at ambassadorial level. Iran's
Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Kazemi-Qomi represented
Iran and Ryan Crocker acted as US envoy.
Talabani is expected to call on high-ranking Iranian
officials to resume the second round of talks with
US on Iraq in support of the Iraqi government and
nation and also interests of the two countries.
Talabani is also likely to demand talks at a higher
diplomatic level.
Talabani is also to meet with Head of Iraqi National
Coalition, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, who is currently in
Tehran for medical treatment and discuss Iraq's
political and security situation and outcomes of his
recent visit to China.
The Iraqi president is currently on a tour of China.
