Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region (Iraq), --
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani arrived at the
Sulaimaniyah International Airport from the United
States after a two-week recuperative trip, a source
from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said on
Saturday.
Iraq's Kurdish Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh,
who is also the deputy secretary general of the PUK,
Iraq's Kurdistan Deputy Prime Minister Omar Fatah,
members of the PUK's political office and Leadership
Committee, along with parliamentarians and senior
government officials received the president at the
airport, the source, who spoke on condition of
anonymity.
The source revealed that Iraq's Kurdistan Vice
President Kosrat Rasul Ali had accompanied the
president during his trip and added that Talabani is
expected to attend a special ceremony in
Sulaimaniyah, marking the 32nd anniversary of the
establishment of the PUK, but did not give details
about the date of the celebration.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Iraqi presidency in
Sulaimaniyah denied that Talabani's visit was "just
for losing weight," adding "the visit was to have
his general health examined." |
