Newcastle, UK, -- A Iraqi Kurd asylum seeker
and body-building has been jailed for life for
stabbing his former girlfriend to death in his flat
in Newcastle. Asylum seeker Ari Abdullah, 30,
pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to murdering
Samantha Anderson, 29.
The court heard how Abdullah had lured her to his
flat in Vallum Court in city's West End where he
attacked her with a blunt instrument and a knife.
The nursery nurse's family said they were outraged
at the minimum tariff imposed of 11 years and eight
months.
The 29-year-old nursery nurse from Cramlington in
Northumberland was described by her family as a shy,
pretty girl.
It is thought her former fiancé became jealous after
she ended their relationship and found a new
boyfriend.
Abdullah, an Iraqi Kurd who was seeking asylum,
lured Ms Anderson to his flat in Vallum Court in
Newcastle's West End to collect post in October last
year.
He had been drinking heavily and taking steroids.
Steroid user Ari Abdullah, 30, had been engaged to
the 29-year-old before their relationship broke down
last July. |

Ari Abdullah was sentenced to life in prison for
Samantha's murder

Samantha Anderson, nursery nurse, died of multiple
stab wounds |
Abdullah - who could be freed after serving less
than 12 years of the life term - stabbed Samantha 14
times and inflicted more than 30 other injuries
Newcastle Crown Court heard.
The prosecution said he subjected his victim to a
prolonged assault.
A post-mortem examination showed Ms Anderson had 14
stab wounds to her heart, lungs, liver and arms.
Abdullah claimed he could not remember what happened
but pleaded guilty to the murder.
Judge John Millford said: "You have taken a young
life and devastated thoroughly her loving family.
"The only sentence I can pass upon you is one of
life imprisonment."
Ms Anderson's family were too upset to speak when
they left court.
But senior investigating officer, Det Supt Steve
Wade, said: "They are extremely upset at the
sentence.
"Obviously he's been given a life sentence which is
important to bear in mind but the Judge set the
minimum tariff of 11 years and eight months.
"The family are outraged at the leniency of that
sentence and asked me to pass that on to the Crown
Prosecution Service and they have specifically asked
as to whether there are any grounds of appeal."
The police and lawyers will meet next week to
consider their request.
