Conference under the name "Dua" on June 5

Sulaimaniyah, Kurdistan region (Iraq), -- The
Kurdish province of Sulaimaniyah will host a
conference under the name "Dua" on June 5 to discuss
a draft law banning all forms of violence against
women, to be referred to Iraqi Kurdistan region's
parliament for debate, a civil society activist
said.
"The body supervising the conference has set up
media, legal and feminist ad hoc committees to come
up with proposals to be discussed at the meeting,"
Najiba Mahmoud, a feminist and an organizer of the
event, said on Saturday.
Bakhshan Zankana, the chairperson of the women's
rights committee in the Kurdistan Parliament, told
VOI "the committee has called on all advocates of
women's rights to table their proposals on
amendments to the personal status law and to submit
them to the parliament's legal committee, which is
currently considering the draft on prohibiting
violence against women."
