SEOUL, -- The head of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff (JCS), Kim Kwan-jin, will meet Thursday with
the governor of the Iraqi Kurdistan region capital
of Erbil, Nawjad Hadi Mawlood, where South Korean
troops are stationed as part of U.S.-led
multinational forces, to discuss security conditions
there, the JCS said.
The meeting comes one day after a rare terrorist
bombing in the capital of Iraq's autonomous
Kurdistan region killed
14 people and wounded scores of others, a JCS
spokesman said.
"Erbil Governor Nawjad Hadi Mawlood arrived
here on Monday for a five-day stay," Song Gyeong-jin,
an official at Gyeonggi provincial government.
"He will be accompanied by 10 other Erbil city
officials who have been selected for a two-week
training on the operation of a library," Song added.
The Gyeonggi provincial authorities have agreed to
provide support for the Zaytun unit's plan to
construct a library in downtown Erbil, including the
donation of books and training of librarians.
